Morning Prayer Day 7
Affirming God,
You call us to new life in you. You give us new life. You save us from ourselves.
Our old selves who alienate us from you and your community.
Our old selves with hardened hearts, greedy hearts.
You call us to new life, and yet we fail in all the ways.
We allow anger to grow in our hearts. We keep the generous riches you provide for ourselves. We allow evil talk from our tongues. We tear down, instead of building up. We participate in bitterness, slander, and malice, and Lord, if we are honest, we get something from it.
We get attention and we get to relieve a pressure valve that has been building since the start of the pandemic and likely before.
God, we are not worthy of this new life you give us, but you still give.
We come to you this day, this new morning, confessing the ways we waste our relationships.
We confess the ways we damage each other and ourselves by not seeing you at work in the lives of our neighbors and in our own lives.
Forgive us, Lord.
Turn us back toward you that we might be the disciples you have called us to be. Never stop making us new.
In the name of the one who gave it all that we might be claimed forever.
Amen
