Morning Prayer 2022 Day 47
God of Justice and Love,
“But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and herbs of all kinds, and neglect justice and the love of God; it is these you ought to have practiced, without neglecting the others.”
These are hard words to read unless I am only inclined to project this discipline onto others - but I can’t. As I sit with these words, as I open myself to honest reflection, I realize that I must see myself in the seat of the Pharisees and Lawyers. Woe to me Lord, for I confess this day that I neglect your justice and your love. I neglect it whether I realize it or not.
I need you to name this for me in my heart. Help me see where I turn my heart from your people in need and embolden me for deeper and more meaningful action. Help me recognize messages of exclusion and hate and speak truth to them - your truth. Root out a space in my heart and plant seeds of awareness and compassion and service. Grow this seed in my heart that I might practice justice and love more fully in this sacred and holy world of people you claim as your own.
Help me practice your justice.
Help me practice your love.
Amen
