Morning Prayer 2022 Day 64

Son of Man,

Reading your words feels equally difficult and comforting, “My soul is troubled.”

Your soul was trouble? The Son of Man - the Son of God’s soul? Yes.

You were turning your face to the cross. You didn’t hold back. You were clear. You came into the world in human form for this very journey - the journey to the cross. You came to die.

And Lord, you also came to bring light.

You came to bring your light into our lives. You came so that we would not only walk in the light but so that we would be children of the light - your Holy, beloved children.

After you shared this troubling and life-giving news, you retreated. You went away from the crowd.

There are times when we are troubled. Times when we must speak hard truths. Times when the broken parts of our lives must die; when we must take the long hard walk toward something new or painful. There are times when we need to retreat.

During all these times Lord, we can see from your own journey that you understand and that you make the journies with us. You came, Lord, in love for each of us. You came that we might be children of the light.

For this, we share our deepest gratitude. As we journey through life give us the strength to stay pointed toward the cross, toward repentance and love and light.

Amen
