Morning Prayer 2022 Day 52
“Do not forsake me, O Lord; O my God, do not be far from me; make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation.”
Present God,
Like the Psalmists in times of lament and despair, it can seem as though you have abandoned me. It can feel as though I journey alone with my head down in shame and guilt. It is often easier to believe the worst of myself and of others.
But you don’t think the worst of me. You do not forsake me. You remain here, present, in, with, and among me as I walk through this life day in and day out.
The Psalmist asks you to make haste, to come quickly, but Lord, you are already here. You need not hurry, I only need to recognize you. I only need to pause, center myself, and listen.
You speak in your own ways. You speak in sounds of whispers, you speak through light and darkness and nudges. You speak through the unexpected voices and actions of others.
Lord, I do not ask that you make haste, instead, I ask that you make yourself known to me this morning as I rise to meet this new day, this new gift from you.
You do not forsake me. You are here.
Amen
