Morning Prayer Day 23

Uniting God,

We divide ourselves. We separate ourselves by class, color, accent, religion - the list is neverending. We find ways to see others through the eyes of hate and distrust. We latch on to the negative words the world shares on social media or in the news, but God you remind us that we are all one in the body of Christ.

We are no longer Jew or Greek, slave or free. No, we are all one in the body of Christ, adopted in our baptisms to be your children - you make us divine siblings. You chose to have us all in your family - regardless of what the world thinks of us or how it classifies us.

Thank you that our worth is not based on these hateful and hurtful messages that divide and separate. Thank you for calling us to be more than the world’s desire for us. Help us to answer that calling with faithfulness and passion for justice and peace as our baptismal promises demand of us. Heal us in our broken places of racism, sexism, ageism - all the broken places. We are tearing each other down instead of building up your Kingdom. Help us to see each other as you see us - as worthy children created in your image - beloved children of God.

Thank you that our tendencies toward casting out the other are not your tendencies. Help us be more like you. In the name of the one who came for the sake and salvation of ALL people, your Son, Jesus Christ.

Amen
