Evening Prayer No. 1

God of Depth and Creation,

As night falls on this day, voices from the many conversations and from media serve to drown out my ability to hear you - to feel your presence with me.

As I reflect on the conversations and events of the day, it is easy to feel lost or remain distracted. It is easy to feel overwhelmed or behind or unworthy.

Instead, Lord, gound me in gratitude for the small conversations.

Help me hold dear the smiles of those I love.

Help me remember the great gift it is to have people who love me in my life.

Help me recognize the gifts and skills you have given me to build up your kingdom.

And Lord.

Many in my circle hurt. They struggle with realities I can’t fathom. Addictions rage. Illness takes hold. Resentfulness builds. Despair takes over.

Lord, you know these people. You hear their cries and their silence. Surround them with love.

May your Spirit overwhelm them with comfort and peace.

May they know they are beloved.

And Lord.

As I lay down this night to rest, may my heart and mind be on you and your rich mercy. May I rise knowing I am claimed? May I rise knowing I am beloved?

Amen
