Morning Prayer 2022 Day 78

Holy Gardner,

On this new morning, when the sun promises to rise, today’s text reminds me that pruning is biblical.

No good tree bears bad fruit, and no bad tree bears good fruit.

Figs and grapes are not gathered from thorns or a bramble bush.

Lord, the abundance within my heart will be the fruit I bear, and I am reminded that I do not grow good fruit for myself. You grow goodness within me. Your love makes it possible for me to love.

Today, as I walk through this life you have gifted me, may I remember that pausing to listen, to hear your message of love and grace, will fill my heart with the fruits of the Spirit. Grow in me the gifts of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control.

Prune from within me the places of self-doubt, resentment, anger, distrust, and jealousy. Free my heart to bear fruit that brings life to others through peace, calm, and acceptance.

Amen
