I Can Hear the World’s Pain

I woke up this morning, and like all mornings I opened my phone and started reading social media posts and the news. There is a lot of pain in the world this day. As I paused to reflect, it welled up inside me. Then, I turned to today’s scripture and I thought, perhaps others might need easy, effortless access to these words from the Psalms.

Morning Prayer

Lord, you are our keeper.

You don’t promise the absence of pain, but rather you promise your presence and comfort through our pain.

You promise us that we are beloved.

The grief and hopelessness of friends and family are welling up this day.

There is great pain in the hearts of those I love and value.

May we turn our eyes to the hills Lord - may you be the help that comes.

May we know Lord that you are already here.

Open us to feel the grief that allows for healing.

May we recognize our place at your table and be fed the comfort that only you can give.

Give us rest in you.

May we surround each other, hold each other, in your great love.

Help us to be gentle and patient with each other and ourselves.

Lord have mercy.

Christ have mercy.

Amen

Key Scripture Verse

Psalm 121

Assurance of God’s Protection

A Song of Ascents.

I lift up my eyes to the hills—
    from where will my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
    who made heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot be moved;
    he who keeps you will not slumber.
He who keeps Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is your keeper;
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all evil;
    he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep
    your going out and your coming in
    from this time on and forevermore.
